Karl-Gustav Sigfried von Uetliberg

Postby ScottC » Tue Jan 16, 2018 12:55 am

Karl-Gustav Sigfried von Uetliberg
- played by Scott C

Concept: PTSD monster-hunter
Nation: Eisen (Freiburg)

Most Eisen have seen terrible things, and Karl-Gustav has seen far more than the average Eisen. He constantly scans doors and windows. Always chooses a seat with his back to the wall, but near a door. Alert to loud noises and sudden movement. Drinks ale (preferably flavored with mugwort and sweet gale) so he can sleep--then wakes up in the middle of the night, seeing his family and betrothed dying yet again, by plague and by fang. He sees danger where no one else does--though he's usually right. He speaks little, and laughs less--and often at things others find macabre.

Years of fighting in the War of the Cross have convinced Karl-Gustav that the Vaticine, the Objectionists, and the Horrors are all a plague upon Eisen. He distrusts the faithful, Castille, Montaigne, and those who do things for show. Literally a militant atheist, he seeks to strengthen Freiburg and defend it against all enemies, human and otherwise. He will duel with his zweihänder if that's the best solution to the problem, but will do anything it takes to kill a Horror or protect the weak.

6'2", sturdy, short black hair, short red beard, blue eyes, generally attractive except that his right ear is partly bitten off.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the coast of Rücken Island. I watched drachen scales glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time for the monsters to die.

Ilyina Ryavda Rustovna
-played by Mindshred

Nation: Usurra
Concept: Plucky Courtesan

Ilyina is a pale, slight woman who wears her blonde hair cut short, albeit in a feminine style. She wears dresses in hues of red in an attempt to align herself with the fashions of the Ussovan boyers and wears a variety of expensive, floral perfumes. Multiple rings adorn her fingers, though she does not care for necklaces, bracelets, or other "dangly" jewelry.

Growing up as a courtesan on the fringes of the Usurran courts, Ilyina is much like her home nation: warm and inviting at times, but tempestuous and prone to sudden bouts of frigid danger. She's less of a fighter than a manipulator and schemer, but she's nevertheless come to the Commonwealth in the hopes of finding her younger sister, who seems to have been kidnapped by pirates.

Madame Aldona, "Ambassador" from Sarmatia to Avalon

Concept: tricky priestess meddles in politics
Nation: Sarmatia, from eastern Curonia
Religion: Curonian Paganism, keeper of the old faith
Languages: All Thean languages, past and present.
Secret Society: Mociutes Scara

-->Society has changed rapidly in Sarmatia, full of foreign cultural influences. Aldona, a priestess from Voruta, is skeptical of the motives behind the Voldacce/Sarmatia marital alliance. Why wasn't that treaty made with Avalon? She has sent herself on a journey to Avalon, without official government authorization, but rather on the imprimatur of the Ratas, the Curonian sorceror's alliance. Fiftysomethig, salt&pepper hair. Stronger than she looks, but prefers to use words rather than weapons.

Ganzorig Gregovich, Swordsmith

Nation: Usurra
Concept: Wrecking Ball making swords

Ganzorig left Usurra for a number of reasons, a few of which include searching for better steel, an idea that all of the new nobles would need well made swords and an incident or five where someone brought up his mixed heritage and he ended up owing someone furniture. He is normally dressed simply, often bundled up when in the cold, for he spends most of his time near a furnace...something that normally keeps him far warmer then most citizens of Usurra.

Before coming to Sarmatia there was a goodly amount of time near the Usurra and Eisen border, where he truly honed his skill as a swordsmith. Mostly cheap, quickly made swords, but a few better ones, including one he thought he would never surpass.

For one very specific reason, Ganzorig's time in Sarmatia has suddenly given him a mission to forge a better sword then he has ever in the past.

But then, it's not every day you find everything you've built burned down around your broken anvil, your former masterpiece piercing cold iron somehow.

Ivan Sladivgorod Andreievich
Concept: wandering mystic/preacher/storyteller
Nation: Ussura
Religion: Ussuran Orthodox, leaning more towards the folklore side
Languages: Old Thean, Ussuran, Vesten, Avalonian

Ivan is about 30 years old, very very tall and broad-shouldered, and mostly bald but for a thick black beard. He wears a black robe and cap (typical of Orthodox clergy), walking boots, and a small backpack, and has a black smudge on the palm of his hand that he usually keeps hidden. Ivan enjoys telling stories about heroes and spirits and monsters from Ussuran legend (especially his favorite, an old Kazar sky god named Turå) to anyone who will listen. Habitually talks to birds; sometimes they seem to listen too.

Ivan was born to a couple of farmers on the rural outskirts of Sladivgorod, a large fishing/trading port on the shores of Ussura's inland sea. He was the youngest of many children, and the nickname "Little Ivan" stuck with him in spite of growing up to be head and shoulders above everyone else in town--which he attributes to "clean living, fresh air, good food, and boxing."

As a teenager, he traveled to Pavtlow to attend seminary, intending to join the clergy. While there, he spent much time studying old forgotten books of theology and folklore in the library, and just as much time chasing after half-true legends in the Molhynian mountains. He never quite fit in as a traditional Orthodox priest, in part because his philosophy tends towards "we common folk can no longer rely on the imagined good graces of gods and kings and hierophants; we must stand together and make our own way in the world."

When he felt there was nothing more for him to learn at seminary, Brother Ivan returned to his family's home in Sladivgorod and served as a local preacher for some time. As the years passed, though, he grew restless and desired to travel again.

Ivan has recently arrived in Carleon, capital of Avalon, aboard a Vesten trading ship. He is eager to learn more about the theology of this new Church of Avalon as well as the Sidhe who reportedly live in these isles.
