Golden Liberty: The recent ennobling of the entire citizenry of the Sarmatian Commonwealth, which granted voting rights to all Sarmatians to break a long-standing legislative deadlock. (S1 m) (See also N2 60-62)
Biały: The Sarmatian political faction opposed to Golden Liberty, consisting largely of the old nobility and middle-class conservatives. Their color is white. (S1) (See also N2 61)
Czerwony: The Sarmatian political faction favoring Golden Liberty, consisting largely of populists and the lower class. Their color is red. (S1) (See also N2 61)
The Fake Riot: See the Market Square Riot (S1)
The Market Square Riot: A staged conflict in Market Square between people posing as members of the Biały and Czerwony factions. Also known as the Fake Riot. The participants largely focus on property damage. One rioter identifies Klaudja as the organizer. (S1) The Heroes' working hypothesis is that the riot has been staged by the Biały faction to discredit the Czerwony faction. (S2)
The Budorigum Gazette: A newspaper whose reporter covers the Market Square Riot. (S1) This Budorigum paper's editorial bias favors the Biały faction, although it employs some members of the Czerwony faction to maintain a veneer of balanced coverage. (S3A)
The broken sword: G's masterpiece of smithcraft. G sold it several years ago to Volker Kurt Schmid. The broken point half was left embedded in G's forge. The broken hilt half was last seen in the possession of Imelda Mundt. (S2 m)
The Commonwealth Crier: A Budorigum newspaper whose editorial bias favors the Czerwony faction. (S3A)
The Shipping News: A Budorigum trade journal. (S3A)
The trafficked people: Foreigners being trafficked as slaves in Sarmatia. This occurs illegally and out of the public eye. Recently the Commonwealth Crier has begun to cover this story. The Budorigum Gazette, however, has not. (S3A m)
The drowned bodies: A rumor not yet appearing in print, that people have been found drowned in Budorigum's local parks. Lew Budky's interest in the discussion of this has caused B to wonder if the dead largely belonged to the Czerwony faction. (S3A m)
Kreuzritter note #1: A message found by B hidden below a taxidermied Frightling mounted above a window in the Quartered Raven's common room. It reads: "Hunting the huntress leads here, but she has grown wary. I fear I am spotted. She has been here a while. Seeking something? In darkness I will search merchant records and the papers for the clues to her actions that I know such a creature must leave. If this note remains, I perished before returning here. -Simon Beneath the Star." B speculates that it is connected to G's broken sword and Imelda Mundt. (S3A)
Biały message drop point: Mismatched bricks in the foundation of the rear side of the Budorigum Gazette Building. B notices them during KG's duel with Lew Budky. (S3B) The Heroes find a note to Lew hidden there after the opera. (S4) The evening a day after the opera the Heroes find a second note. (S6A)
"Ianneo and the Golden Slippers": A comic Voddace opera, the latest in a series of Ianneo operas. In each of these Ianneo, the hero, has wild adventures, woos handsome men and beautiful women, and returns home with a gift and a story for his young sister. This opera is currently playing at the Budorigum Theater. (S4)
The Sejm: The bicameral Sarmatian parliament located in Budorigum. It consists of an upper house of the old nobility, the Senat, and a lower house of the new nobility, the Izba Poselska. Before Golden Liberty, the Sejm consisted solely of what is now the Senat. (S4) (See also N2 62 m)
"Death of an Old World": A tragedy previously performed at the Budorigum Theater. Three fights broke out after one of the performances. (S4 m)
Nadzieja Dubicki's party: An event held two days after the Budorigum premier of "Ianneo and the Golden Slippers". (S4 m) This afternoon party takes place on the manor grounds of Nadzieja Dubicki's estate. The guests include influential pre-Golden Liberty nobility, members of the Sejm, wealthy merchants, and some Ussuran trade delegates. There are musicians on a stage, copious food and drink, hot and cold running servants, and even a planned exotic entertainment from beyond Théah. (S6A) The party is disrupted by a fire breaking out in the manor house. (S6B)
The silver nightingale pin. A guest gift B, I, and K plan to give Nadzieja Dubicki when they visit her home. It is chosen to appear to be a thoughtful gift that nevertheless demonstrates the limited means of I and her retinue; a tasteful item, but insignificant for someone of Nadzieja's wealth. (S4 m) They pool their resources and purchase the pin from Miron Slowka, a reputable silversmith. (S6A) In the confusion at her party and the subsequent fire, I never gets the opportunity to give her it. (S6B)
Biały message #1: A message hidden at the Biały message drop point discovered the night after the opera. It reads: "Lew, what the hell was all that about? Is there really a good reason to be brawling in our ally? Thanks for the tips, but don't bring that kind of news to our doorstep." B speculates that it was written by Antoni Kaluza. (S4)
Letter to G from Volker Kurt Schmid: A message delivered to G by Jan at the Robin's Nest. While disturbed by its contents, G is nevertheless overjoyed to learn that Volker is still alive. It reads: "Master Gregovich, I write to you with apology and urgency having traveled at the best speed I could survive after losing a great treasure you sadly entrusted me with. I bring warning, for I fear my fate may be yours as well as the creature seems far too interested in this treasure's source. Please be wary. This messenger is willing to bring you to me for a penny...or zloti, or whatever they call the tiny, thin coins here, but I expended the last of mine upon this message and a thin roof, having not even the stamina to search through the streets to remember the placement of your forge. Sorrowfully, Herr Schmid." (S5)
The lynks: A disease described by I. It causes arm blisters and blackened tongue. The clay near prisons is notorious for spreading it. (S5 m)
The Narwhale: A ship. One of the defeated Brute Squad members who accepts G's offer to repair his shop used to cut timber on it. (S5 m)
Biały message #2: A message hidden at the Biały message drop point discovered the day after the opera. It is in the same handwriting as Biały message #1. It reads: "Assignments have been passed out. Thanks for the tip." (S6A)
Nadzieja Dubicki's ledger #1: A tidy ledger of importance with familiar names. A discovers it in a secret compartment guarded by a poison needle trap in Nadzieja Dubicki's desk in her study. He smuggles it out of her manor unobserved. (S6A)
The anvil-shaped cookies: A dessert G modifies to send a signal to the other Heroes at Nadzieja Dubicki's party that he has made it into the manor kitchen. (S6B)
Aldona's ring: A ring with three small blue stones set in green enamel swirls. I spots it in a display of jewelry inside Nadzieja Dubicki's manor and takes it. The particular pattern of wear on the enamel convinces I that this is not merely a similar item. (S6B)
The colored pebbles under a rose bush: An arrangement of pebbles left by Simon as a coded Kreuzritter sign pointing to a lake on the grounds of the Dubicki Estate. K finds it and follows the clue to the lake. (S6B)
Aldona's shoes: Shoes handmade by Aldona and I's grandmother and appliqued by their mother. I finds them in Nadzieja Dubicki's secret basement room. (S6B)
Nadzieja Dubicki's ledger #2: A ledger provided to I by Nadzieja Dubicki's steward. It carefully documents a staggering amount of clothing and jewelry taken from trafficked people, some of which is found in the secret basement room. The last entry is from about three days earlier, the day before the opera. I offers to let the steward deliver it to his true master after she is done with it. (S6B)
The warehouse keys: A set of heavy keys with diamond-shaped heads. I finds these keys, which do not match the stewards keys, in a desk in Nadzieja Dubicki's secret basement room. The steward notes that they look like warehouse keys to him. (S6B)
The oak tree: A tall tree with a deliberate scratch beside a lake at the far end of grounds of the Dubicki Estate. K follows Kreuzritter signs under a rose bush to this tree, where he finds a note hidden in a crack of it. (S6B)
Kreuzritter note #2: A message found by K in a waxed envelope of dark paper hidden in a crack in an oak tree on the grounds of the Dubicki Estate. It is in Simon's handwriting. It reads: "She's come to meet with the merchant here. I know not what for, but doubt it's good. I hope to remove her as she leaves. If I do not, I only hope my brethren find the trail and may finish what I've begun." (S6B)
The manor fire: A damaging fire at the manor of Nadzieja Dubicki. G and I set the fire during her party to cover evidence of their investigation of her secret basement room and their theft of her ledger and warehouse keys. B and K, unaware of the fire's origins, help fight the fire and evacuate the servants and guests. (S6B)
