Character creation

Postby Lyahdan » Mon Jan 01, 2018 10:33 am

We're starting with basic Heroes. We'll be doing some group chat/meetings for character creation. If you've already put something together on your own, that's great.

Books allowed:

-Everything in the core book is fair game.

-Nations of Theah 1&2: are all fine, but let me know you're using crunchy bits from there since I don't remember those as well as the core ones.

-Crescent Empire: Not available at this time.

Stories:
Again, feel free to have Story steps set up prior to getting together to work on characters. Otherwise, we'll go over these then. Stories are basically how characters advance in 7th Sea, and it's pretty unique. However, see below regarding Hero Spreads, as those may affect how you lay out your Story.

Through the game, story arcs will essentially be GM Stories and will provide options for advancement at the conclusion of each arc.

Hero Spread:
The Sorte deck was kind of a big part of old 7th Sea, and I rather miss it here. Mechanically, Backgrounds have filled in most of what the spread would have provided, but I want to feed them in. I'll be stealing the Destiny Spread idea from Through the Breach and using it to draw and create what amounts to a Prophecy for each character that wants one. These will act as something of a parallel Story for your character and give me more building blocks to weave in.

Background:
Do write up a character background. It doesn't need to be a novel, but hit the points important to your characters and provide a reason why your character is in Avalon or Sarmartia (depending on which group you're playing with) that's open for letting them chase adventure.

The 20 Questions in the core book are decent for getting into the head of a character, but they are not required.

Characters can be from any of the countries, but, as noted, need to have a reason to be where we're starting out.

Character submission

Please use the following format to submit your character. The sheets are nice, but not easy to copy and move around electronically.

Concept: Big Damn Hero

Languages: Old Thean, Avalon, Druid's chant
Secret Society: The Invisible College
Reputations:
    Decisive
    Carleon: Boorish

Arcana:
The Magician (Virtue): Willful
-Activate your Virtue and targe ta Villain. Until the end of this scene you cannot spend Hero Points and the Villain cannot spend Danger Points.

Coins (Hubris): Relentless
-You receive a Hero Point when you refuse to leave well enough alone or quit while you're ahead, and this gets you into trouble.

Traits
Brawn: 3
Finesse: 2
Resolve: 2
Wits: 3
Panache: 3

Skills

Athletics: 1
Brawl: 2
Convince: 2
Empathy: 1
Hide: 1
Intimidate: 1
Notice: 1
Perform: 2
Ride: 2
Sailing: 1
Tempt: 2

*Weaponry: 2

Backgrounds

Seanchaidh (warrior-poet)
-Quirk: Earn a Hero Point when you enforce the ancient laws of your people

Explorer
-Quirk: Earn a Hero Point when you set your eyes upon a sight few, if any, Theans have ever seen before

Advantages

Riot Breaker
- You're used to your opponents coming in double digits. When you take Wounds from a Brute Squad, subtract your Resolve from the Wounds. The remainder is how many Wounds you take, to a minimum of 1

Linguist
-You speak, read, and write all Thean languages. Even the dead ones.

Quick Reflexes
-Choose one Skill (marked with *). You always take actions as if you had an additional Raise to spend when you use that Skill.

Second Story Work
Spend HP to locate a way into a building or restricted area. You can bring one other character with you.

Survivalist
-If you are in the wilderness, you can forage or hunt food for you and up to five others. In extreme circumstances-you and two others.

Valiant Spirit
-You begin each game with 2 Hero Points instead of 1.

Disarming Smile
-Spend a Hero Point to keep another character from drawing a weapon, starting a fight, or resorting to violence. She will still defend herself, but will not start any violent conflicts.

Sorcery or Swordsman information here (Dar Matushki used as example even though this character does not have Sorcery)

Dar Matushki

Gifts
(Spend 1 HP to activate.)
    Illuminate
The area around becomes perfectly illuminated. Undead creatures suffer 5 Wounds immediately and roll -2 dice while Illuminate is in effect.

    Sew
Only affects your clothing. Mend or tailor at will.

    Purify
Cleanse a room of toxins, poisons, disease, and dirt. (The Girls like to be clean, ok?). Alcohol becomes non-alcoholic.

    Regeneration
Recover from injury fast. Heal one dramatic wound.

Restrictions
    Forgiveness
You must always show mercy to your enemies and never hold a grudge.
Penance: If you fail this, you must seek the one you wronged and do whatever it takes to make amends.

    Moderation
Do all things in moderation or lose your Gifts.
Penance: you must submit to an act of fasting, never indulging in your favorite activity, for a month.

Story

Purging My Weaknesses

1. Find the location of the yearly goblin market to purchase a bezoar
2. The witch will oversee the ritual that will harden my flesh against impurity.

Goal: Obtain the Poison Immunity Advantage
